C-MORE Hale the first building at the University, and the first research laboratory in the State to achieve LEED Platinum certification - serves as a model for sustainability. The use of native plants and hardscape materials emphasizes the Hawaiian sense of place, while reducing water use and minimizing maintenance requirements and the use of native grass/lack of turfgrass provides a paradigm shift regarding the landscape design. Trial plantings for the green roof and its ongoing maintenance will also help in the successful plant selection of future green roof projects in Hawai`i.
