The 1.8 acre property of this new residence is a sloping oceanfront lot with views to Diamond Head and Maunalua Bay.

One of the challenges with this project was to minimize the effect of the 34' grade differential from the street level to the seawall, while providing useable, attractive landscaped areas throughout. Privacy from the neighbors was also of paramount importance. To achieve privacy from the street, a continuous hedge of large Areca Palms was planted at the top of the retaining wall along the street.

A continuous berm along the inside of the wall and plantings of Gingers, Laua'e Fern and Spider Lilies screened the wall from the entrance to the house. Queen's White Showers line both sides of the driveway to eventually provide a greater sense of seclusion from the street.

A preponderance of red and yellow flowering plant material was used because of the Owner's stated preference. These included Red Clerodendron, Giant Red Heliconia, Red Ginger, Red Impatiens, Red Ixora, Red Plumeria, Yellow Allamanda, Giant Yellow Heliconia, Yellow Tecoma and Yellow Hibiscus.
